“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
-Isaiah 46:4
We often get asked about how long we plan to travel and do this. And in all honesty, we have no idea what the answer is to that question. In the beginning, we decided to put our “YES” on the table and not bind it with time constrictions. So I guess that makes the answer, “We don’t know.”
Here in Isaiah, we see that despite God’s longsuffering, patience, and grace with the Israelites, the people STILL continued to trust OTHER things for their deliverance. Isaiah continues to try to convince the Israelites that the one true God was all they needed…….He couldn’t compare to their worthless idols. In verse 3, God gets their attention and asks them to listen! He reminds them that He has carried most of them since their birth. Then in verse 4, He promises to sustain them……even to their old age.
There’s something about the word “sustain” that just sits differently with me. The word is defined as strengthen or support. It’s the idea of continuation and durability. It’s the feeling of being held steady. It’s the concept of having a trustworthy backup.
For those of you that know us well, you know that we are planners by nature. Our comfort zone is “planned out with a little holding space for flexibility.” I’m sure some of you are chuckling now. So I think that the obvious next statement is to point out the fact that this season has been stretching for us in many ways.
Lately, I’ve really had to shape my feelings of uncertainty with what I know to be true. I know that the Lord has called us…..and as Isaiah so wisely reminds us, He will carry us and sustain us.
Recently, in reference to their medical journey, I heard someone say that they were gonna trust God for tomorrow….and then the rest would come after that. That phrasing stuck with me…….I just need to trust God for tomorrow. And then allow Him to sustain us….even to our old age and gray hairs.
We are honored to be called by God to minister, love on, and help reach. Thank you for your continued prayers on our behalf, as well as your financial support!
With grateful hearts,
Kevin and Casey
