“I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places; so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.” -Isaiah 45:2-3
A dear friend and wise mentor quoted this verse to us a week or so ago as we shared with he and his wife about the many things that we’ve seen the Lord do over the past few months. We spoke of the discouraging times, the things that have been unexpected, and the ways that the Lord has simply amazed us. He spoke this verse aloud…..over us…..to remind us of the work the Lord is doing in our lives and to encourage us to press on.
At this point in Isaiah, the Israelites had come through their exile in Babylon. This first part of the second half of the book is more a message of hope…….a time when the Lord is answering their questions of who He is in response to their doubts.
From day one, we have prayed that the Lord would go before us. As a result, the wording of this verse resonates so powerfully in our hearts. The verse goes on to include so many strong statements of faith and hope of what the Lord promised to do for the Israelites…..level mountains and break down barriers. But its the personal and confident nature of verse 3 that causes me to feel the tears threaten to well up in my eyes…….”I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I AM THE LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.” This deeply personal and caring reassurance makes following His leading so humbling and yet so fulfilling. To know that He has riches stored in secret places along our journey just for us…..so that we will know that He is the Lord and that He is summoning us…..Kevin, Casey, Chloe, Claire, Caitlyn, and Caroline…….by name to follow His leading in our lives.
With grateful hearts,
Kevin and Casey
